Last weekend I was asked to photograph a birthday party for a sweet little boy turning one. His mother contacted me and we chatted about a few details until she dropped the bomb…this would be a party for over 100 guests at a major hotel ballroom! :) I am not primarily an events photographer, and while I very much enjoy it, its quite rare that I get to really unleash the style of shooting that makes me happiest…the ever elusive realm of photojournalism.
(SUPER) luckily for me, my new client hired me because of that very style and she was so wonderful about kinda letting me loose to capture the true spirit of the night. And there was spirit a PLENTY let me tell you…I felt like an invited guest at a few points throughout the evening, with family members checking to be sure I was well fed and doing okay…what a party…into the wee hours everyone celebrated and enjoyed themselves amoung their friends and family, even the guest of honor, Siva, who I’m positive partied far past his usual bedtime.
Thank you Radhika, for allowing me to be a part of the day, and for your appreciation of what makes me tick as a photographer, the moments when no one realizes I am there…the interaction…the realness. For clients like you, I am forever grateful.
