While we were in Cambodia, our guide took us to visit a local factory where silk was made. This place was a bit of a drive from the center of Siem Reap…but worth the trip. When we arrived a local guide walked us around and showed us the whole process from larvae to textile.
I was of course eyeing the gift shop the entire time we were there, imagining the pillow (oh the pillows!) that I would be guilting my new husband into lugging with us on the rest of our trip…but seeing the conception of the material gave me an entire new appreciation for it. I am still amazed that each strand was so strong and had so much sheen, and especially how much of the finished product they were able to produce in a day…so we tried to help them avoid storing too much of it by buying as much as we could carry.
